This institution has always been known for its emphasis on physical fitness. Physical instruction classes are a mandatory part of the curriculum. Athletics and swimming, together with sports and games, draw widespread student participation for a good part of the year. Every year, the school organizes an inter-school sports festival called Sportstop. This is a virtual extravaganza of sports and games and the keen competition which characterizes nearly all the events (some of which are played under lights) ensures a truly exciting and challenging experience for all Cathedralites.
Day-night tournaments are a star attraction of the ever popular Winter Sixes sports festival held on the Pettigrew Turf each year. Clubs and associations connected to sports such as netball and karate are active virtually all year round.
